The maternity wards of the Freistadt and Rohrbach clinics recorded a touch fewer births than in the previous two years. Overall, however, the balance sheet has remained at a fairly high level over the years. Another trend also continued in 2023: more boys than girls were born in both hospitals.
While there were 431 babies (203 girls and 229 boys) born in Freistadt, 15 fewer than in the previous year, the annual balance in Rohrbach shows 539 births (257 girls and 282 boys) – 26 fewer than in 2022 More than three quarters of the babies were born naturally – i.e. without a cesarean section. In Rohrbach, March and April in particular were months of particularly joyful births. The day with the highest number of births in 2023 was April 18th with six newborns.
Behind these numbers there is a lot of happiness and joy for the expectant parents. The leading midwife at the Rohrbach Clinic, Roswitha Hofer, emphasizes: “Our philosophy focuses on not only supporting parents during birth, but also accompanying families on the way there. Every birth is unique, and our team strives to make this possible To give space to uniqueness.”

Parents value personal contact
An experience that Barbara Röblreiter, head midwife at the Freistadt Clinic, also shares: “We midwives take a lot of time for this and often become confidants in this very sensitive phase of life.” The entire obstetrics team stands behind the medically competent, warm-hearted and humane care of pregnant women and women giving birth. “Not only the expectant parents, but we in the obstetrics team also appreciate the manageable size and the personal care and high quality of care that this enables,” says the medical director of the gynecology and obstetrics department in Freistadt, Primary Sebastian Jülg.
Especially in a maternity ward, it’s about more than just the medical care that we take for granted, says Primary Werner Hochmeir, head of the gynecology and obstetrics department at the Rohrbach Clinic: “For us, quality means preserving humanity in obstetric medicine.” He and his team would therefore focus on holistic care that focuses on the individual needs of each family.

Many conversations with parents about why they chose Freistadt or Rohrbach as their place of birth would confirm this path, it is said: Here families would experience a safe and sensitive start in life. Individual care and personal support are the focus of this type of birth care.
