The United States Supreme Court announced that it will hear a landmark case to determine whether donald trump can run for president. The judges agreed accept Trump’s appealagainst a decision of Colorado to remove it from the 2024 ballot in that state.
Trump is the current Republican favorite for a probable revenge against the president joe bidenof the Democratic Party, in the November elections.

The 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution prohibits any person from having “participated in an insurrection or rebellion“hold federal office, but the former president’s lawyers argue that does not apply to the president.
Their attorneys have argued: “The Colorado Supreme Court’s decision would unconstitutionally disenfranchise millions of voters in Colorado and would likely be used as a template to disenfranchise tens of millions of voters nationwide.”
The court battle for Trump to run as a candidate
The split decision 4-3 of the Colorado superior court last month marked the first time in the history of USA that the 14th Amendment has been used to disqualify a presidential candidate from the ballot.
He also appealed against a decision by election officials in Maine to remove it from the ballot.
The courts of Minnesota and Michigan have rejected attempts to disqualify trump. Other cases, even in Oregonare pending.
Although the supposed efforts of trump to subvert the outcome of the 2020 presidential election are the focus of lawsuits in federal court and state court in Georgiahas not been criminally charged with inciting insurrection in either case.
