Schönborn himself was impressed by the commitment of the children and young people involved. For the children and young people who take part in the campaign, the star singing is “a beautiful experience,” said the cardinal, who goes out with the children dressed as kings every year on January 6th. For the children supported by the Epiphany Campaign project partners who live in poverty, it is a “strong sign of hope”. At the same time, Schönborn thanked all supporters and donors of the star singing who made “such an effective and solidarity-based contribution to a just world”.

“An important sign for all of us”

Archbishop Franz Lackner welcomed a group of star singers from Guggenthal to the Salzburg Bishop’s House on Friday. As he explained on this occasion, visiting the star singers was a great experience for him as a child. “They brought the wide world into my parents’ house,” recalled the chairman of the Austrian Bishops’ Conference. The fact that children and young people have been working “for peace and humanity” for 70 years is “an important sign for all of us”.

Visits to government leaders

Epiphany is considered the highlight of the star singer campaign, and this year the star singers will also be out and about in many places on Sunday, January 7th. The visits to celebrities and politicians that began before the turn of the year will continue next week – on Monday with Chancellor Karl Nehammer and State Secretary Claudia Plakolm, Minister Martin Kocher and club chairman Sigrid Maurer. On Tuesday the star singers will be with Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler, ministers Leonore Gewessler, Alexander Schallenberg and club chairmen August Wöginger and Beate Meinl-Reisinger, and finally on Thursday with Second National Council President Doris Bures and in Parliament.

First interim balance

At the same time, the Catholic youth group took stock of this year’s campaign on Saturday. Around 85,000 children and young people took part again, and the motivation was “huge,” said federal chairwoman Teresa Millesi in a broadcast. An exact, Austria-wide donation result will not be known until March, but according to the feedback so far from many parishes, a “good donation result” is expected again. Millesi also thanked the children and young people who took part in the star singing, their “tireless” helpers and everyone who donated to the campaign.
