Despite initial restrictions due to extensive renovation work, a total of almost 30,000 visitors attended exhibitions, workshops and events at the MAW. In the history of the museum, 2023 is one of the years with the highest number of visitors, if you exclude the state exhibitions. For the first time, the MAW team looked after more than 10,000 students. For the Working World Museum team, it is important to continue in 2024 where they left off in 2023. The show “Future Food – Food for the World of Tomorrow” can still be seen in the exhibition area.
The exhibition “Unruly Country – Strike, Protest & Stubbornness” will be added to the program from February 9th. This format can currently be seen in the House of History of the Lower Austria Museum. On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the February battles in 1934, a station was added for the presentation in Steyr and moved to the old Eisenstadt, a center of the conflicts in February 1934. There is great anticipation for the exhibition. “Not only because we are making a valuable contribution to February commemoration in the city, but also because we can give a stage to lesser-known stories of workers from rural areas in Lower Austria,” says Rosinger about the collaboration with the St. Pöltner Haus der Geschichte .
In addition to the two exhibitions in-house, the Working World Museum also manages the permanent exhibition in the Stollen of Remembrance.
In addition to tried-and-tested formats such as readings, discussion events and the children’s culture program, the museum’s cultural program in spring 2024 will also include a focus on cabaret. The start is probably one of the most successful cabaret artists of the last two years – Malarina is coming to Steyr on February 1st with her award-winning program “Serbs are dying slowly”.
The Working World Museum will also be able to celebrate an anniversary in 2024. In 2009, the “Politics Workshop” workshop room was founded, one of the first extracurricular learning locations for political education in Austria. Since then, more than 15,000 students have been introduced to democracy and worked on and with it. “We are convinced that democracy has to be learned and we start our workshops at elementary school age. In the super election year, the focus of our offerings is strongly based on the needs of first-time voters,” says Rosinger. (haze)
