The alpinists were hit by an avalanche on Sunday in the Formazza Valley in Piedmont above Lake Maggiore. The incident occurred between Lake Toggia and the San Giacomo pass, at an altitude of about 2,200 meters, rescue units reported.
A body was recovered from the snow. The body of the second deceased was located in Lake Toggia. The bad weather made the rescue work difficult.
