The annual volunteer celebration in Leopoldschlag highlights those people who work in clubs and institutions throughout the year with countless hours of unpaid work. “Volunteering is not work that is not paid. It is work that is priceless,” said Mayor Anita Gstöttenmayr, making it clear how important the commitment is to society. She thanked the invited volunteers each with a copy of the Ministry of Social Affairs’ “Volunteer Calendar”.
Volunteer Award
As every year, two people were brought to the fore for particularly outstanding voluntary achievements and were awarded the Leopoldschläger Volunteer Award 2023. The hand-potted and hand-painted volunteer plaque, which was made in the Hafnerhaus Leopoldschlag, went to Eduard Böhm and Hermann Jachs this year. Böhm Edi, as he is known throughout the community, was honored for his voluntary work with the Leopoldschlag music association and the Grenzlandbühne. He was an active musician for 40 years, deputy bandmaster, archivist for the musicians’ uniforms and achieved countless awards for musical achievements. Above all, however, he worked countless hours in the Musikheim and on the Grenzland stage. Edi is also known and popular among the boys. Kapellmeister Sabine Klopf: “Edi’s stories and songs, which he performs every now and then, simply inspire young and old.”
Hermann Jachs received the second volunteer award for his services for the Union Leopoldschlag and specifically for the tennis section. He has been an active tennis coach for all age groups for 30 years. He was also an active football and tennis player in the Union Leopoldschlag for many years with numerous successes in tournaments and championships. But above all, he stands out for his numerous voluntary hours for the Union Leopoldschlag. Tennis court maintenance, preparing and carrying out events – wherever there is a need for sporting events, Hermann Jachs is there to help and advise.
