Damage worth millions after a fire at Greiner wood processing company

The property damage caused by the fire last week should amount to several million euros, the police announced on Tuesday after the assessment by experts and investigators from the LKA Upper Austria.

The entire production hall and numerous machines fell victim to the flames. The fire is likely to have broken out on Friday night in the basement below the sawing hall. The extent of the destruction is so great that determining the cause of the fire turned out to be extremely difficult, according to the executive.

No evidence of third-party debt

Experts from the fire prevention agency assume that frictional heat in the area of a V-belt drive of the suction fan could have caused a smoldering fire, which ultimately led to a full fire in the production area. So far there have been no indications of third-party debt.

A 56-year-old driver saw the fire driving past on Friday night and alerted the emergency services. 17 fire brigades from Upper and Lower Austria with more than 220 helpers stood, as reported, on duty for hours to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to the office building and the adjacent timber warehouse.
