Of ten discos, bars and other operating facilities, six had serious security deficiencies, as emergency exits were blocked or blocked and additional security measures were missing. An escape door was locked with a crossbar, the City of Vienna operations team announced on Monday.
A total of 14 reports were filed and two procedural orders were issued – this means that the deficiencies must be remedied within a set deadline. In addition, 16 violations of official requirements were identified. Changes requiring approval due to illegal conversions were also discovered in two operating facilities. Decorative parts that were installed over large areas and did not comply with fire protection standards were also immediately removed in two operating facilities in accordance with official orders. This was about carnival decorations.
The City of Vienna operations team carried out the checks together with the immediate measures group, the official representative from the Favoriten Municipal District Office, the police standby unit, the market office (MA 59) and the commercial technology department (MA 36). The main focus was on escape routes, safety lighting, extinguishing aids, functionality of the emergency exit doors and compliance with the prescribed number of visitors in the operating facilities and event venues. “The focus activities over the weekend have once again made it clear how essential the work of the City of Vienna operations team is,” said head Walter Hillerer.
