Talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and American leader Joe Biden are being held face-to-face via video link on Tuesday, December 7.
Biden greeted Putin and said he was glad to see him again.
“Unfortunately, we did not have to see each other at the G20 meeting, but I hope next time we will be able to meet face to face,” the American president said.
Putin greeted the American leader with a smile.
The Russian president contacted his American counterpart from the Bocharov Ruchei residence in Sochi. A large TV screen is installed in front of the Russian president’s desk, on which the papers are laid out.
The parties are expected to discuss the situation in Ukraine, NATO’s eastward expansion, the international agenda, Afghanistan and issues of bilateral relations.
The presidents will also discuss the implementation of the agreements reached during the previous meeting held on June 16 at the Villa La Grange in Geneva. Then, during the summit, Putin and Biden adopted a joint statement on strategic stability. According to it, countries seek through dialogue to lay the foundation for future arms control and risk mitigation measures.
At the same time, on December 6, former US President Donald Trump admitted that the talks between Putin and Biden would be an “unequal match” for Washington. The ex-head of the White House noted that he himself always acted harshly towards Russia, but at the same time he liked the Russian leader.
