The umbrella organization of social security agencies announced this number on request on Tuesday. However, both ELGA managing director Franz Leisch and the co-chairman of the umbrella association, Peter Lehner, made it clear that deregistering from ELGA does not result in deregistration from the e-vaccination pass.
Call in social media groups
In recent weeks, anti-vaccination campaigns have been called in various social media groups to withdraw from the electronic health record. Vaccination skeptics apparently wanted to avoid the impending vaccination requirement.
In fact, according to data from the umbrella association, around 13,000 people have recently unsubscribed from ELGA. On November 1, 257,000 deregistrations had been registered, as of yesterday’s Monday (December 6th) there were 270,000. It is noteworthy that this number is still lower than a year ago. As of December 1, 2020, the number of deregistrations was 297,000. In the course of the year, however, around 40,000 people registered again – probably also because of the free tests in pharmacies, for which automatic ELGA registration was required. The number of 40,000 cancellations mentioned in the media is explained in the umbrella organization by the fact that so many forms were downloaded, but not all of them actually canceled.
“Questionable in many ways”
For Lehner, the deregistration is “in many ways questionable and shows how urgently a de-emotionalization and objectification of the discussion as well as an explanation of the vaccination issue is necessary.” And the co-chairman of the conference of social security agencies made it clear in a statement: “With an ELGA de-registration there is no de-registration from the e-vaccination pass. There is no opt-out for the e-vaccination pass.” And Leisch also cited the disadvantages that result from deregistering: “If you deregister from ELGA, you lose the advantages in terms of patient safety and comfort. For example, doctors’ prescriptions over the phone or the fact that doctors can access raw results. But you keep your vaccination certificate continue “, emphasized the ELGA managing director on ORF.
Lehner also emphasized that the e-vaccination pass is also an essential component in combating pandemics. “We know the vaccination rates for age groups and at district level in real time. In this way, target groups can be addressed in a targeted manner.”
