Kirchdorf Fools’ Guild cancels the big carnival party

Last year, in imperious weather, there was a huge crowd at the Kirchdorfer Carnival Society’s traditional Carnival Saturday party. Hand on heart, in the celebration zone around the Schöllhuber inn there were far more fools in front of the bar stools and counters than the 600 visitors registered for the event.

The guild learned from this and applied for a major event for up to 2,500 guests this year – a knee-jerk move, as some of those involved said in retrospect. The official expert brought in by the state of Upper Austria for a preliminary meeting in the town hall drew the organizers’ attention to a number of requirements that they had not yet included in their concept. The carnival company then withdrew its application before the approval hearing, which was supposed to have taken place on January 21st, and canceled the carnival party, which was extremely popular with the public. “We could have called on 60 volunteers,” says Roman Mittendorfer, President of the Kiridorfer Carnival Society, “but our club would not have been able to cope with the many requirements either in terms of personnel or finances.”

He doesn’t want to blame the municipality and mayor Vera Pramberger (SP) for the failure of one of the highlights of the Kirchdorf carnival: “As an authority, they also have to adhere to the state’s requirements and of course we are the last ones who don’t consider the security precautions important would.” Just a few quirks, where the magistrate was very petty, would have added up and been the last straw. “The fact that we need a commercial certificate for a simple extension cable for a flow-through cooler at a bar is going a long way.”

Next year nail it

Disappointed carnival fools have posted party notes on Facebook mourning and burying Kirchdorf’s carnival Saturday. It won’t be that bad. “We didn’t have enough time to come up with a concept for a major event this year,” admits Mittendorfer about his withdrawal. And of course: If there were more people on the site, you would have had to pay more security. “We will get together over the course of the year to reorganize the carnival Saturday party on a larger scale,” announces Pramberger. You might meet at a medium-sized event with 1000 visitors.
