According to the Lower Austria State Police Department, he was traveling in the Königsgraben area and is said to have taken off his skis to descend on foot through wooded terrain. The man fell over a 20 meter high rock face.
The Göstling mountain rescue service was alerted by the 68-year-old’s son at around 6 p.m. A team followed the man’s tracks along a forest path to the rock face. The Hungarian was found lifeless nearby. Together with the Alpine police, the deceased was rescued using an akja and a cable pull and brought to the valley late in the evening, the mountain rescue reported in a broadcast about a strenuous operation. 16 members of the Göstling local office, including a handler and dog, as well as three alpine police officers were involved in the operation.
