Undersecretary of Health Hugo López-Gatell announced that the booster injection will begin, prioritizing those over 60 who have not completed their first vaccination schedule and those with immunosuppressive conditions.
“There is no conclusive evidence to recommend boosters in a generalized way,” López-Gatell explained.
The third doses will be applied in Mexico City, Jalisco, Chiapas, Oaxaca, Sinaloa and Yucatán, the AFP news agency reported.
The Mexican president announced last week that the health authorities decided to apply a third dose of the vaccine to the elderly and teachers, amid concerns raised by the appearance of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus, detected for the first time in Mexico in a South African citizen 51-year-old who arrived on November 21.
Regarding the vaccination campaign, the Mexican Ministry of Health indicated in its latest report that 65 million people are already fully immunized, which represents 84% of its population.
