Mujica advanced the economic policy of the eventual Yamandú Orsi government

The former president of Uruguay José Mujica expressed his opinion on the possible economic policy of Yamandu Orsi in case he wins not only the internal Wide Front but also the general elections that will take place this year: a irrigation policy and the public enterprises They would be at the center of the strategy.

The historic Frente Amplista leader spoke at a press conference after participating in the presentation of the seal of the Uruguayan Mail for the centenary of the Electoral Court, and there he spoke about who is emerging as the one who will be the representative of the opposition in the October elections. According to the former president, Orsi —also part of Popular Participation Movement (MPP)— will have two priorities regarding his economic policy if he is the next president of Uruguay.

On the one hand, he pointed out the irrigation policy: “We must thoroughly introduce irrigation policy, It’s the way to make the GDP and multiply export capacity,” he explained, in that sense, Mujica.

Secondly, he pointed to the need to “shake the public enterprises”.

“We have to get out of the bureaucratic party. I am a free thinker, I believe that the political system should not govern public companies, we must provide professional management and look for mechanisms that compromise the interest and pockets of those who work there. In this world we need reward and punishment, a little bit. And we have to change that perspective, our great-grandparents left us a fortune: the value that those public companies have,” he said.

The former president also demanded improvements in terms of demands and performance evaluation. “We have to improve all those things. We are aware that we have to improve them, but that does not mean throwing them overboard, they are a capital of the entire Uruguayan society. And within them (I include) the three state banks,” he responded to Telemundo’s query.

Mujica’s prospects for the elections

Regarding this year’s general elections, Mujica He already anticipated that, according to his reading, it will be an even contest between the Frente Amplio and the Multicolor Coalition, in which “the one who makes the least amount of mistakes will win.” Although he preferred not to delve into the possible failures that the ruling party or opposition may make, he limited himself to mentioning that “in human affairs there are always errors and successes, it is inevitable ”.

However, he called for a greater level of consensus in politics. “Hopefully we can have a government that, the next day after the election results, realizes that this country needs a half-dozen things of national agreement,” said the Broad Front leader.

In that sense, he analyzed: “We have to understand that Uruguay against medium Uruguay “It’s going to have limitations.” In turn, he recalled that “winning the elections “It is nothing more than having a little more responsibility, but we must not believe that we are implacable owners of the country’s destiny.”
