The hope that the Gaza war will not develop into a conflagration in the Middle East is alive: Despite an attack on an Israeli army base, Hezbollah emphasized yesterday that it is not seeking an escalation of the conflict. His militia does not want to expand the war from Lebanon, “but if Israel expands it, the answer is inevitable”said the deputy head of the Iranian-backed Hezbollah, Naim Qassem.
Hamas, on the other hand, appears to be much more combative: the leader of the radical Islamic organization, Ismail Haniyeh, has called on Muslim countries around the world to supply arms to the Palestinian organization. “The time has come to support the resistance with weapons”said Haniyeh in a speech in Doha.
