Warning letters from the medical association to general practitioners

Conversely, they have to treat everyone, including unvaccinated patients, otherwise disciplinary proceedings are threatened. Vienna. The President of the Austrian Medical Chamber (ÖÄK), Thomas Szekeres, said one reason he wrote to the regional chambers was that there were complaints that a few medical professionals would not treat unvaccinated people. “In any case, this is not possible and not allowed in cash registers,” emphasized Szekeres. He pointed out that such doctors also face disciplinary proceedings.

In addition, the letter is about clarification on a website that is critical of vaccination and called “Doctors for Everyone”, in which doctors have been summarized who have claimed that only they also treat unvaccinated patients. “This is factually incorrect, of course, because both vaccinated and unvaccinated patients should and will be treated in principle,” explained the ÖÄK President. According to “Mittagsjournal”, Szekeres also threatened the “Doctors for All” with disciplinary proceedings, and the site has not been online since.

Disciplinary proceedings threaten

According to the letter from Szekeres, those doctors who advise patients against corona vaccinations and who do not adhere to the recommendations of the national vaccination committee are also threatened with disciplinary proceedings. The vaccination committee only provides very few exceptions. “I don’t think it makes sense if every resident doctor is allowed to issue such a vaccination exemption,” said the ÖÄK President. In any case, it is necessary “to make a list of contraindications, which as far as I know is in progress, where it is clearly defined who is not allowed to be vaccinated. These are, for example, people who are allergic to ingredients in the vaccines. And then we would like to see vaccination exemptions issued by public medical officers and chief physicians of the health insurance companies. “

Exemptions only from medical officers

For the upcoming compulsory vaccination, the medical association demands that the issuing of exemption certificates be placed in the hands of official doctors. “It is also conceivable for us that the medical inspection service of the social insurance institutions will issue corresponding certificates,” said President Thomas Szekeres in a broadcast on Tuesday. “Scare tactics and targeted disinformation of the population” would unfortunately not allow normal and accustomed handling of the medical certificates at the moment.

Szekeres asked the Ministry of Health to take this into account in the draft law that is currently being worked on. His Vice President Johannes Steinhart pointed out that the doctors in private practice are coming under great pressure in the current situation surrounding the emotional discussion about the compulsory vaccination – “the aggressiveness is also fueled by certain political groups, which is outrageous. It is therefore important to take this pressure off “said Steinhart. The trustee of the resident doctors also cited the example of the driver’s license examinations – “as a rule, these are also carried out by the medical officer. Therefore, the vaccination exemption certificates in connection with the imminent vaccination obligation are the responsibility of public authorities.”
