In the breakdown, there were 266,791 hectares of wheat; 191,017 hectares of barley; 132,316 hectares of carinata and rapeseed, (summed); 15,932 hectares of oatmeal; and 1,191 hectares of other crops.


Total barley production reached 914,712 tons, with a yield of 4,789 kilos per hectare; that of carinata and rapeseed (added), totaled 211,149, with a yield of 1,596 kilos per hectare; and that of oats reached 39,258 tons, yielding 2,464 kilos per hectare planted.
Wheat was the star crop of the 2023 harvest
Despite these numbers, and although the planting of wheat was 11.6% below the previous harvest (302,000 hectares), the crop achieved a record production of 1,343,772 tons, 5% higher than said harvest, and the yield reached 5,037 kilos per hectare, meaning the all-time high since records have been kept.
In July of last year, the DIEA had anticipated a possible decrease of up to 27% as a result of the agricultural emergency due to water deficit that the country went through for more than a year, however, the results were worse. The area of wheat lost was estimated at 1,413 hectares, that of barley at 2,884 hectares and that of carinata and rapeseed (combined) at 12,525 hectares.
