UVC McDonald’s Ried still has six games to play in the regular season of the Austrian Volleyball Bundesliga. The Rieders, who are currently in sixth place, want to use the remaining program to gain a comfortable starting position for the subsequent play-offs. The first step towards this should be taken tomorrow (7.30 p.m.) against VBC TLC Weiz.

The red lantern is currently shining in Styria. For UVC chairman Roman Lutz, the match against the bottom of the table will still be “not an easy task”: “After the Christmas break, it’s certainly not a ‘g’mahe Wiesn’ in advance. But at the same time, of course, we want to stay in touch with the top of the table.” Before the aforementioned Christmas break, the UVC engine started to stutter a bit – also due to some staff absences. The last complete success came at the beginning of December; coach Manuel Leitgeb’s team has been waiting for a win away from home for four games. With “ambitious, combative achievements” they now want to get back on the road to success, says Lutz. “The main focus is on the play-offs. The team has to be perfectly coordinated there at the latest.” According to Lutz, the injury list should also be shorter by then in order to achieve the season’s goal of the semi-finals.
