There have been rumors about it for months, but now “In’s Haas” founder Wolfgang Jäger is coming forward with the language – and is getting down to business: his new restaurant “Uma” is opening today at 11 a.m. in Pfarrgasse. With his long-time chef Thomas Kurzmann as a business partner, he offers international cuisine in the restaurant with a focus on vegetarian and vegan recipes. “Because we are convinced that we will all have to eat less meat in the future,” says the restaurateur.
The focus should be on take-away, says Thomas Kurzmann: “For example, there are pitas, i.e. flatbreads with filling. You can pick them up in the restaurant and take them with you.” But there is also the option of eating at tables in the restaurant. From March there will be a spacious guest garden with a view of the parish church. The offer should change approximately every two days. The dishes are pre-cooked every morning and then served from a display case – a custom-made item from Italy that can keep the food both hot and cold. “There should be quick, healthy fast food,” says Kurzmann. If you can’t do without meat, you’ll also find some corresponding options on the menu.
Yesterday the preparations were in full swing: “We actually wanted to open much earlier, but there were a few problems with the craftsmen,” explains Jäger. The joy that it’s starting is even greater now: “I’m no longer nervous, it feels like it’s my 100th opening. But it’s nice to try something new again,” says the restaurateur.
While numerous inns and restaurants across Upper Austria are closing, as reported, numerous new restaurants in Wels will be opening in the coming months. “If you have usable quality, it works. Gastronomy has always existed and that will not change in the future,” Jäger is convinced.
There should also be synergies with the “Rolling James” food truck, which is also used by the “In’s Haas” team. “If it is too cold for the outdoor dining area in the fall, the truck could, for example, park in front of the restaurant and offer special dishes,” announces Jäger.
