After a bank robbery in Kufstein, Tyrol, on Thursday, investigators still had no leads on the perpetrator on Friday morning. LKA investigator Philipp Rapold told the APA. The unknown man went into a bank branch and then threatened two employees with a handgun. He demanded cash in broken English and then fled on foot in an unknown direction with a mid-five-figure euro amount.

The large-scale alarm manhunt, in which officers from Germany were also deployed alongside Austrian police patrols, has now been ended. Now we are moving into the “normal search phase,” explained Rapold. Further interviews and a renewed examination of the crime scene are also on the agenda.

According to police, the attack occurred on Thursday afternoon at 3:45 p.m. The man was wearing black shoes, a black jacket and a white hoodie. He was described as being around 1.70 meters tall and is believed to be between 20 and 30 years old. In addition to the two bank employees, there were three other people in the bank. Nobody was injured. The police asked for information.

It was the second bank robbery in Kufstein within a short period of time. It was only in November that an armed stranger managed to steal money from another bank branch and then go into hiding. The perpetrator was also masked and he silently demanded that the cash be handed over. There has been no trace of him since then. Rapold said it cannot be said whether there is a connection between the two attacks – both perpetrators were armed and masked.
