According to insiders, the EU has started investigations against Chinese electric car manufacturers because of possible unjustified state subsidies. The investigation, which began in October, is scheduled to last 13 months, reports the Reuters news agency. The inspectors are carrying out on-site visits to check whether the Chinese electric car manufacturers BYD, Geely and Saic are benefiting improperly from government subsidies. EU competition watchdogs are considering possible punitive tariffs to protect European manufacturers. Brands from foreign manufacturers produced in China are unlikely to be affected.
