Most companies have already responded to this with price increases. Three quarters of the restaurants adjusted their prices at the turn of the year, the industry association Dehoga said on Friday, citing a survey among its members.
Other companies are currently planning price increases. Only three percent want to leave current prices at their current prices.
Against the background of the budget crisis, the German federal government decided to return to the original VAT rate in the catering industry. The reduced rate of seven percent was initially introduced because of the corona pandemic and continued with Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
Rising costs
According to the Dehoga survey, other important cost factors for innkeepers are rising personnel, food and energy costs. Many companies therefore fear a deterioration in their economic situation. Every third company fears that it will slip into the red in 2024, explained the hotel and restaurant association.
