US leader Joe Biden, in response to Russia’s concern over NATO’s eastward movement, promised Russian leader Vladimir Putin to discuss this topic with his alliance colleagues. Commenting on the concern of the West over Russian troops on the border with Ukraine, Ushakov stressed that the Russian military is on its territory and does not threaten anyone.
In addition, Ushakov, in his interpretation, conveyed to reporters the words that Putin said to Biden, explaining the difference between US concerns about Russian troops and Russia’s concern about NATO’s approach to its borders.
“Putin said: you Americans are worried about our battalions on Russian territory, thousands of kilometers from the United States. A Kremlin spokesman noted that Moscow’s concerns about NATO’s eastward expansion and issues related to the provision of necessary security guarantees will be discussed in the strategic stability group.
The leaders’ conversation lasted two hours. The Kremlin called the talks between Putin and Biden frank and businesslike.
