Leonie Stüger came to the Greens two years ago and last year founded the district group of the Green Youth in Gmunden. Since then she has been working there as the district spokesperson, and has already been active on the provincial board of the Green Youth of Upper Austria.
Stüger’s special concerns are acting in the climate crisis and countering fascist tendencies. “At the moment it is almost normal for corona deniers and vaccination opponents to play down the Holocaust on demonstrations,” says the high school student. “This development has to be opposed.” And in climate policy, too, we must finally act consistently. “The climate crisis threatens the very existence of all of us,” she says. “We still have time to prevent the worst, but every day our room for maneuver is getting smaller. Now it takes courageous steps to enable a future that is worth living in for future generations. ”
Above all, the commitment of young people is in demand. “If we young people come together, we can influence politics and thereby bring about change,” Stüger is convinced. “After all, it’s about our future.”
