Numerous people then got out of their vehicles and sought shelter in a house near the indigenous community of Carmen de Atrato, said an authority representative from the region. But this was then buried by another landslide.
Long lasting rain
Images shared on online networks and on television showed cars destroyed by masses of earth. It had previously rained heavily for more than 24 hours in the rainforest region in the northwest of the South American country. While large parts of Colombia are suffering from a drought, the authorities recently warned of heavy rains in the Amazon region and in several coastal regions on the Pacific.
