The private companies of Uruguay will begin offering scholarships to youths within the framework of the program I study and work starting in March, reported the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS).
As explained by the national director of Labor, Daniel Perezthe job and educational insertion program will no longer be only part of the state level, but companies from all over the country will allow students to access a first formal work experience.
In addition, the scholarship recipients will receive training in digital skills and transversal competencies dictated by the National Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (Inefop).
Who can access I study and work?
The private sector variant of the job placement proposal is aimed at young students between 16 and 20 years of age. The work scholarships will last six months or a year and trial periods will be established. The workload will be 20 hours per week, reported the Ministry of Labor and Social Security.
The State will subsidize 80% of the salary of those who are selected, with a limit of 15,000 pesos, and will provide a subsidy of 100% of the salaries in the hiring of young people with disabilities to strengthen their job placement.
Once the I study and work scholarship ends, the company will be able to extend the employment relationship. In that case, the company will be responsible for paying the entire salarybut will be exempt from paying employer contributions until the worker turns 25 years old.
