It is a success that only a few in the history of the Ennstal Cup have achieved at this tender age: Jonas Gruber, just 13 years old, from the Trattenbach winter sports club, won this year’s cup opener on the Lärchenhang in Hinterstoder. The talented state team runner beat the clearly favored top runners Melvin Garstenauer from the Pechgraben sports club and his club colleague Daniel Lumplecker to their places.
After a six-year break – the last time a giant slalom was run on the larch slope was in 2018 – the Ennstalcup was back on this slope for the first time. And the slope, unloved by many, promptly claimed its victims with a high failure rate. In difficult snow conditions, 25 of 81 starters in the race from the student class onwards did not make it to the finish line.
Marlies Kaiser from Naturfreunde Großraming, who was previously unbeaten on this slope, was also eliminated. Denise Dietl benefited from this. The racer from the Trattenbach winter sports club, who had not yet had any success in the Ennstalcup on the Lärchenhang, won this time confidently ahead of Kathrin Mayr from the Steyr ski club, who finished second in the top three of the day’s rankings for the first time. Third place went to Liana Garstenauer from the Pechgraben sports club.
The children’s race, already the third of the season, of the giant slalom organized by Naturfreunde Großraming went off without a hitch with 54 runners and only two failures. Anna Gsöllpointer from the Großraming organizing association won the girls’ event for the third time in a row. This time Sophia Buchberger from the Trattenbach winter sports club and Christina Mayr from the Steyr ski club made it to her podium.
Among the boys, overall leader Aiden Mitteregger also had the upper hand ahead of his teammate Felix Froschauer from the Steyr ski club. After two slalom victories, it was Mitteregger’s third success in the third race. Jona Schörkhuber from the Losenstein sports club came in third.
