Some people sat down on the road on Brückenkopfgasse between Radetzkybrücke and Griesplatz after 5 p.m. They had previously come from a demonstration in the city center via Freiheitsplatz and Opernring. This also blocked public transport on some bus routes crossing the bridge, an eyewitness said.
Traffic jams and detours
The Graz Linien and the police reacted quickly and rerouted buses on the affected lines 31, 32, 33, 30 and 40 as well as the minibus-operated line 30 – as far as possible. The blockade ended about an hour and a half after it began, and evening traffic began to flow normally again. The traffic jam situation was made worse because both Neutorgasse and the Tegetthoff Bridge to the north were closed during work to expand the tram network. A small-scale evasion was therefore not possible.
