After a fatal rock fall: Undersky receives a protective net against further rock falls

The torrent and avalanche control department has built a new rockfall protection network in Unterhimmel. West of the site of the devastating rockfall last February, the first part of the “Undersky Protection Project” was completed.

In total, the experts installed 120 linear meters of protective net with an energy absorption of 1,500 kilojoules: This means that the net can hold a block of stone with a volume of 2.5 cubic meters and a weight of 6.25 tons at a speed of 80 km/h.

After replacing the properties at Rosenegger Straße 4 and 7, the follow-up project can now be completed. It is expected that in the first half of 2024, the detached houses and the rock fall area will be demolished, a protective wall will be built, the crack in the rock will be grouted and another protective fence will be erected in the eastern area.
