They whirl through the air, juggle balls, demonstrate their dancing talent and show what is important in floor exercise: This year, too, 40 students from Sport-BORG Linz will be there when the OÖNachrichten comes to the gala night of sports on February 9th Invite Brucknerhaus.

“We performed at the gala night for the first time 20 years ago, so this year is a special anniversary for us,” says sports teacher Alexander Friedrich, who coordinates the students and teachers for this event.

A great togetherness

At the beginning of school, ideas for different sports performances were collected, and since October we have been training in every free minute. “And that’s really not that easy because everything has to take place in your free time. Then there are the intensive weeks of school work – but for our students this event is always a very special highlight of the year,” says Friedrich, who also made the very first appearance of his students in 2004. “We were really nervous at the time because we didn’t know what to expect.”

Now, however, it is not the nervousness that predominates, but rather the anticipation of the performances, which are prepared for months by five teachers from the Sport-BORG. “A great team in the background is crucial here. After all, it’s about creating something together. The focus is on working together.”

What can the audience look forward to now? “In the foyer, our students will delight the audience with a lively dance, and in the panoramic foyer there will be enough space for gymnastics and acrobatics. 19 students are in action here – everything from juggling to slingshots,” says sports teacher Friedrich.

The students between the ages of 15 and 18 now have just over three weeks left; on February 9th, the first acrobatic artists will start their performance at 9:20 p.m. in the foyer. “In addition to the performances, I’m particularly looking forward to Franz Klemm. I’m a big fan, and he was at the Gala Night of Sports a few years ago, where he also talked to us teachers and the students. That was a special moment for us,” says Friedrich.
