He Minister of Labor and Social Security (MTSS), Pablo Mieresassured that 40% of the workers who agree on their salary in the Salary Council will end the current government period with an improvement in the real salary with respect to 2019, year prepandemic.

The leader stated this Monday at a press conference that even the Cuesta Duarte Institute of PIT-CNT recognizes this figure through a recently released report, and that “the other 60% (of workers) will end up tied (as of 2019).”

“That in the middle there was a fall of the real salary “Everyone knows it, there was also a drop in real wages throughout the world, which is something that would be important to take into consideration,” the minister remarked with respect to the first years of government, where this indicator fell.

For Mieres To ignore this fact is to ignore that “the entire world” was going through a pandemic, which “implied a drop in employment and real wages in the developed world, and Uruguay was no exception.”

“Yes, it was an exception. Uruguay in a much faster recovery of the employment than most countries in the world,” he emphasized, adding that “we also fulfilled the promise we established in 2020, that before the end of the government period all workers would have recovered their purchasing power.”

“The PIT-CNT itself says that 60% of workers will end up with the recovery of purchasing power”

Mieres stated that, based on the report, “the PIT-CNT “It says that 60% of the workers will end the government period with the purchasing power of their salary recovered, and that the other 40% have already recovered it before.”

“In addition, the average salary of Average Salary Index (IMS) that ends in 2023 is higher than that of 2019″, so in addition to the percentage of workers who recovered their real salary, the average wages went up.

On the other hand, Mieres indicated that employment also improved compared to 2019 in the number of jobs, as well as in unemployment and informality indicators. “We should all be happy and not look for trouble,” she concluded.
