He Minister of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP), Fernando Mattospointed out that Uruguay currently trades “with any type of government”, and that the function of its portfolio is to open markets, beyond the political contexts of each country.

Yesterday, within the framework of the launch of the 12th Poultry Expo: Chicken and Hen Festival in San Bautista (Canelones)the minister assured at a press conference that the country opens markets “regardless of the political aspect, which is managed by the Chancellery“.

“We handle the commercial aspect, we are open to any type of government as long as it complies with the agreements and that means more work for Uruguayans,” he added.

In addition, Mattos reaffirmed that the MGAP reached agreements with “markets of all kinds”, such as commercial authorizations with China, Cuba, Europeand more recently with Israel.

“Our job is precisely to enable, from a health and phytosanitary point of view, the best export opportunities that the country has. Uruguay to generate greater value and greater opportunities for Uruguayans,” he insisted.

The MGAP seeks to achieve export poultry farming

On the other hand, the leader pointed out that his portfolio aspires to have an “export” poultry farming in the future. Uruguaysince this sector is a “very important” productive chain for the country, which has grown in recent years and is responsible for a good part of the protein supply in the local market.

According to Mattos, the Uruguayan poultry sector “has enormous potential in providing quality protein”, as well as “generating a lot of employment”, since “it has very good health, productive, performance and quality parameters”. “We hope that in the future we will have more markets and more opportunities, having the necessary competitiveness factors to be able to export,” he concluded on the subject.
