Skoda writes “more striking, elongated, more aerodynamic”: Just four years after the market launch, the designers and developers in Mlada Boleslav put their hands on the top seller. The changes were of course subtle, but Skoda upgraded the Karoq in the right places.
The Czechs gave the widened radiator grille a hexagonal shape – in line with the new Skoda design line. In conjunction with the new front apron, the result is a more robust look. The new matrix LED headlights as well as the rear lights are drawn narrower and fit in perfectly with the rustic appearance.
Better aerodynamics
Not only the underbody has been aerodynamically optimized, the longer rear spoiler and the more streamlined light alloy rims also reduce the drag to the low drag coefficient of 30 for a stately SUV.
In the interior, Skoda can use vegan, recycled and reusable materials on request. For example, recycled PET bottles are used for the seat covers. This sustainability is summarized in the eco package.
For the first time, the Czechs are also offering electric seat adjustment including a memory function for the front passenger seat. And the standard 8-inch touchscreen can be exchanged for an optional 10.25-inch version. Those who can wait will receive an eight-inch digital cockpit display as standard in the course of 2022, which will replace the previous analog instruments.
The various revised assistance systems, including cruise control and lane departure warning, are now grouped under the term Travel Assist.
The new Karoq will be available from early 2022.
The drives
Four engines are available for the new Karoq: a three-cylinder (1.0 TSI) with 110 PS and two four-cylinder with 150 PS (1.5 TSI) or 190 PS (2.0 TSI). The 2.0-liter turbodiesel is offered in two output levels: 116 and 150 hp. A manual six-speed gearbox is standard, the three engines with 150 (TSI and TDI) and 116 hp can also be optionally ordered with a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox (DSG). In the top model with 190 hp, the 7-speed DSG and all-wheel drive are standard.
