The lockdown doesn’t just stop at the border with Bavaria

The small and large border traffic continues to roll happily even in lockdown. The fact that there were no unpopular border closings in the fourth wave does not mean that the border to Bavaria can be passed easily, the state’s crisis team clarifies.

Because there is still a lockdown in (Upper) Austria, including all-day exit restrictions. You may therefore only leave your own living area in exceptional cases – in short: work, purchase of basic goods for daily life, physical recreation in the open air and emergencies. So are Upper Austrians allowed to go to Bavaria to go shopping? Yes, but only basic goods of daily life. If it is a matter of purchases that do not serve this purpose, shopping in Germany is not permitted, the country’s Corona crisis team clarifies. The same applies to visits to restaurants, events, fitness studios, etc .: These visits are not covered by the exception rule. Anyone who does not adhere to the rules commits an administrative violation and is punished with a fine of up to 1450 euros, according to the crisis team. “Purpose changes” are also not permitted: Legally permissible walks followed by a visit to shopping centers and restaurants are not allowed, emphasize the WKO chairmen of the border areas in Schärding and Rohrbach. The chairmen Andras Höllinger and Florian Grünberger appeal to use the regional pick-up and delivery services.

In Bavaria there is largely a “lockdown for unvaccinated people”: access to restaurants, fitness studios, etc. is usually only allowed with 2G or 2Gplus (vaccinated or recovered and additionally tested). If the seven-day incidence is higher than 1000, there will be widespread closings.
