The completely renovated “Remise 1894” by Stern & Hafferl was opened with a ceremony on Wednesday evening. The garage for train sets next to Energie AG can now also be used as a venue for cultural events.
The old coach house has historical significance: When construction of the Gmunden tram began in 1894, an civil servants’ and servants’ house, two staff houses, a power station for generating electricity and the coach house were also built. As is well known, the multi-gym was the nucleus for today’s Energie AG. The coach house, however, is the only building that still exists today.
Stern & Hafferl sensitively renovated and modernized the coach house from the ground up. “We not only wanted to preserve the historical appearance, but also emphasize it,” says Günter Neumann, managing director of Stern & Hafferl Verkehrsgesellschaft.
The “Remise 1894” continues to serve primarily to accommodate the historical trains of the Traunseetram. In the future, cultural events can also take place in the 130-year-old building. For this purpose, modern technology was installed, there is a projector and a sound system, a professional gastro kitchen as well as tables and armchairs. “We are aware of our responsibility towards the people and the region,” says Karl Neumann, CEO of the Stern Group.
