Four hectares in size, rich in around 10,000 different plant species and a natural oasis in the middle of the city with great recreational value: This is the Botanical Garden on Roseggerstrasse. The mixture of nature experience and special event location is very much appreciated by the guests, said city councilor Eva Schobesberger to the team headed by Thomas Schiefecker.
Bringing nature closer to people, especially children and young people, and sensitizing them through knowledge is one of the tasks of the botanical garden. In this context, it is pleasing that school classes have been able to visit the Botanical Garden free of charge since the beginning of the year.
More than 100 events
Since the natural zone in the middle of Linz, where the focus is on cultivating plants from all over the world and thus preserving species threatened with extinction, is also ideal for events, we are sticking to this path this year too.
More than 100 events are planned this year. These include, for example, 15 workshops specifically for children. The youngest children can learn how to build a house for wild bees, get inspiration for painting or enjoy a concert. Of course, in the warm season the garden will become a stage again and the “Word & Sound” event series will offer eight concerts.
The Botanical Garden also wants to impress visitors this year with its nature and botany exhibitions. “Exotic Jewels – Tropical Butterflies” can be seen in the exhibition hall until February 25th. From March they will make way for the “world of tropical orchids” and from June it will be the turn of the cacti, to name just a few examples.
