The American rapper A$AP Rocky showed how it was done and gave his Rihanna flowers last Valentine’s Day – but not classic (real) roses, but a bouquet made of bricks. According to the singer’s Instagram post, the trendy alternative was met with enthusiasm, and the plastic flowers that can be assembled are also being found more and more often in people’s homes.
For organic gardener Karl Ploberger, the trend isn’t entirely understandable: “I have a hard time with straw or silk flowers, where you only realize at second glance that they’re not real. The bouquets made of Lego bricks aren’t that convincing for me . Personally, as a real natural person, I prefer living plants.”
According to the expert, even a lack of a green thumb doesn’t speak in favor of the plastic alternative: “An amaryllis bulb really makes anyone bloom. And anyone who has spent so much time with artificial flowers thanks to the construction instructions can also find out how to care for a real plant.” But Ploberger sees an advantage: “I can put the Lego flowers anywhere in the apartment – even in dark corners where real plants wouldn’t survive.”
They are still suitable as a gag or gift alternative for adults who enjoy playing. There are now not only the classic bouquets of roses, daisies and asters, but also potted plants and dried flower arrangements. However, they are not cheap: the bouquet with 756 pieces costs just under 60 euros. Curious: Some well-known Lego elements are recycled. Purple swords are the stamens of the bird of paradise flowers and pink frogs are the flowers of the bonsai tree.
Other manufacturers
It’s not just the Danish brand giant Lego that has floral building sets in its range. Since the patent for the clamping blocks expired in 2010, other suppliers have also been allowed to produce compatible blocks. Since then, they have been busy producing buildings, vehicles – and even flowers to build themselves.
