The key works will take place in the closure of the Northern Transmission Ring and in the Rincón de Baygorria Hydroelectric Power Plant.

UTE defined an investment of 260 million dollars by 2024, with the objective of expanding the electrical infrastructure and improve the quality of service, as well as the announcement of new tenders to increase the flow of renewable energy.

One of the most ambitious projects will be the closure of the Northern Transmission Ring, that will connect Tacuarembó and Salto, as explained by the president of UTE, Silvia Emaldi, who anticipated that it will involve an investment of close to 190 million dollars and will be completed between the end of the year and the beginning of 2025.

This work, which will enable two roads in the country’s high voltage network in the event of an interruption, the evacuation of energy from important projects in the center of the territory and better integration with surrounding countries to export or import energy, It will also employ around 800 people and includes the deployment of 360 kilometers of high-voltage lines and the installation of 1,000 electrical towers.

Another important project is the renovation of the Rincón de Baygorria Hydroelectric Power Plant, which will involve an investment of 60 million dollars, with the objective of extending the useful life of the establishment to 60 years.

On the other hand, Emaldi confirmed the issuance of new tenders to increase the flow of renewable energy, with the completion of two solar parks, one in San José and another in Cerro Largo, for a value of close to 100 million dollars.

Energy Loss Plan

On the other hand, the leader highlighted the Energy Loss Plan current and anticipated that it will be deepened this year. The initiative seeks to recover the energy that is produced but not billed and pointed out that there are 15% in these conditions, “because there are still people who connect to the network irregularly.”

Emaldi He highlighted that during his management losses were reduced by 3%, which implies a recovery of 45 million dollars per year in billing. “This savings was transferred to the rates paid by the population, which allows a minor adjustment to be made, even below the inflation”, stood out.
