It was Daniela C. and Stefan K’s shared dream: To have their own house, where the couple and their two daughters Vanessa (5) and Olivia (3) wanted to spend Christmas this year. Where the upcoming wedding is planned and where family happiness should ultimately be perfect. On the evening before the first Sunday in Advent, the trained car mechanic was busy with work in the new house – “Stefan was enthusiastic about the plans for the house. He thought through everything down to the smallest detail and proudly presented the progress of his new family home to everyone,” explains Mayor Leopold Gartner. At around 10 p.m. he went home, his two daughters even wanted to stay up until their papa finally came home after a busy day.
Suddenly that accident happened in the village of Hinterweißbach that completely changed the life of the family of four from one second to the next. For unknown reasons, the 32-year-old came off the Böhmerwaldstrasse and crashed into a tree. Despite the best efforts of the fire fighters, the paramedics and the emergency doctor, any help came too late for the young family man.
Advent in a state of emergency
It was precisely in this difficult situation that the residents of the market town of Vorderweissenbach pulled out all the stops to help Daniela C. (30) and her daughters. They are currently staying with Daniela’s parents in Bad Leonfelden. “It is understandable that the family is now withdrawing. In a situation like this, one no longer thinks about moving and the girls cannot understand that their dad is no longer coming home,” says the mayor.
With united forces, the community is now trying to at least make it possible for the family to move and thus also Stefan’s dream. “Unfortunately, we cannot alleviate the family’s emotional suffering. But everyone is ready to support Daniela, Olivia and Vanessa,” says Gartner. Whether laying the floor, moving or procuring furniture – especially in times of lockdown: “No matter who you call: Everyone in town lends a hand and helps. When the accident happened and we inspected the construction site, I thought to myself: Moving by Christmas is impossible. Now everyone is working to ensure that the family can spend Christmas in the new house – just as Stefan wanted his three loved ones to be, “says Thomas Dollhäubl, head of the market community.
In this difficult situation, the 30-year-old mother and her two daughters can not only count on the active neighborhood help in the community. But also on the support of the OÖN reader family: Thanks to the generous donations, the OÖN-Christkindl can provide immediate aid and help the family financially – in an Advent season that became a state of emergency in Vorderweissenbach this year.
