The firm will take advantage of the tax exemptions offered by the Investment Promotion Law and hopes to begin production of the vessels this year. Aspires to generate 10 jobs direct and nearly 40 indirect jobs, in addition to strengthening the exports with a type of boat that is not produced in today Latin America.
The official announcement of the new shipyard came from the Argentine naval designer specialized in yachts, German Frers, during an event at Yacht Club of Punta del Este, in which he gave details of the structural and interior design of the catamarans.
The company will manufacture three exclusively designed boat models, one of which is designed especially for the Mercosur.
One of the important actors for the arrival of this investment was Uruguay XXI, from where they provided information to members about the benefits they could qualify for, as well as possible installation locations and the facilitation of the process to achieve qualification.

When choosing Uruguay, SM Catamarans took into account the tax exemptions offered by the Investment Promotion Law, while the operation was protected by the Shipyard Law of 1984, which exempts from taxes the import of materials, raw materials, capital goods and various elements that this type of undertaking requires to function.
Thus, the company will be able to use certified quality inputs mainly from China, such as carbon fiber and resins, but it will also do the same with electronic equipment and components. USA.
