With the cold, the aches and pains on some vehicles come to the fore. Anyone who has ever waited for breakdown service in a broken down car in the dark and cold knows how liberating it can be to see a flashing orange light coming around the corner. The ÖAMTC teams in the Mühlviertel were in almost constant use last year. The breakdown helpers were called out an average of 21 times per day. The mobility club achieved two record results across Upper Austria.
The “Yellow Angels” from the Rohrbach, Freistadt and Perg bases have had a busy year. “With 7,733 mobile breakdown assistance, the number has increased by around six percent compared to 2022. In addition, there were 1,924 towings. Furthermore, 14,612 breakdowns were repaired directly at the bases. In total, including testing services and consultations on all mobility-related topics, 78,677 customer contacts were made recorded, an increase of eight percent compared to the previous year,” sums up ÖAMTC Upper Austria’s chief technician Dieter Lepschy.
As in previous years, around a third of all operations were due to weak, empty or defective batteries. This was followed by problems with the tires, the alternator or the starter as well as the engine or the engine management. In around five percent of cases, vehicle doors that were accidentally locked had to be opened.
Record year for “Yellow Angels”
Across Upper Austria, the mobility club was called to breakdowns on the road 109,425 times last year. This corresponds to an average of 300 missions daily. Towing was also necessary 37,330 times. “Especially in times of high inflation, persistent delivery difficulties and scarce resources, people need security. The increasing demand for our services reflects the enormous trust in the ÖAMTC as a reliable partner,” says the chief technician.
