What was the result of the survey?

According to the MEF report, “for most products, chains charge higher prices in Punta del Este than in Montevideo”, since during the first half of January, prices were imposed, on average, 3.4% higher in that resort compared to the country’s capital.

Anyway, the price gap It was reduced compared to the same period in 2023 – considering the first half of January of each year – since the previous registration had observed a surcharge of 7.4%. “That is, there was a reduction in price differences between Montevideo and Punta del Este”the report noted.

If the price dynamics are observed according to the group of products to which they belong, those with the highest surcharges average recorded in Punta del Este were the Fruits and Vegetables category —5.3%—, Food and beverages —3.9%— and Personal care —1.9%.

In Piriápolis and Atlántida, meanwhile, the category with the highest surcharge was Food and beverages —2.3% and 2.4%, respectively. Likewise, this last resort was the only one that presented a greater price difference with Montevideo than last year.
