The neighbors of the department Rocha They continue to demand that a tax amnesty and that is why the mobilizations escalate and specific situations are addressed, establishing that there were people who were not aware of the existence of this tax.

One of the neighbors told Subrayado that the department imposed the tax on inappropriate buildings in some areas of the coast of Rocha which came in conjunction with the payment of the real estate tax.

“This is being very burdensome and is not considering the particular and special situations of the entire population of the coast,” he lamented. Edgard Luzardo, neighbor of Rocha. “What we want is to regularize, the issue is that the deadlines that were given for the purposes of being able to carry out the agreement with the Municipality of Rocha, were very meager, there were people who were not aware of the existence of this tax,” he added.

The keys to the claim

Previously, the neighbors began their complaints detailing that they came from Devil’s Point, Saint Elizabeth, Punta Rubia, La Pedrera and Dove. “All of us neighbors want to regularize our houses, but as they are, we should not make 200,000 modifications to be able to regularize them. There are things that have been there for more than 20 or 30 years,” a neighbor told Telemundo.

In that sense, they assured that there is no flexibility and that the first thing they want to do is fine the citizens. “There is no flexibility whatsoever. In a few months try to put us first penalty fee and then a tax. We understand that we do have to regularize our houses, but with a longer period, more flexibility and with an amnesty,” added the neighbor.

The mayor’s office calls for “tax justice”

Faced with this, the mayor of Rocha, Alejo Umpiérrezhighlighted that there are several cases of neighbors who pay taxes on their properties as if they had vacant land.

“We found more than 3,000 plots of land that looked like wastelands at the municipal level, that they were paying for vacant land, but that they had buildings of great economic value,” Umpiérrez established. “We believe that this is tax injustice for a neighbor who pays what he owes,” he added.
