Loud cheers in a full hall, spectacular shots and a final for which the description “crime crime” is a criminal understatement: The first edition of the Perger Darts Open this Saturday in the event center “Die Turnhalle” made it clear why the former pub pastime has changed has transformed into an electrifying sport for a wide audience.

64 darts players took part in an A and a B competition. It wasn’t until after 1 a.m. that the tournament winners were announced: Lukas Böhm (B competition) and Pero Ljubic (A competition). The Croatian-born Ljubic, who was already able to get a taste of PDC air a few times, narrowly won the final against Dominik Sonnberger from Reichenthal 3-2. Sonnberger left the stage as a tragic hero: He was already 2-0 ahead and was also ahead in the “Decider”. However, there he missed a whole series of match darts and in the end had to admit defeat to his competitor. Even the audience’s applause could only lift the mood to a limited extent.

Star guest Mensur Suljovic lived up to his nickname “The Gentle”: The Viennese darts professional, whose career to date has been crowned by a nomination for the “Premiere League Of Darts” and a fifth place in the world rankings, did not play himself, but was there ready for countless selfies and autographs. And he had a lot of praise for the organizers in the OÖN interview: “To be honest, I didn’t even know where Perg was until today. That makes me all the more impressed by this tournament. I’ve rarely experienced something like this in Austria. It It’s sensational how much enthusiasm but also professionalism the guys from the organization team bring to their work.”

Praise that was happy to hear at DSV Prinz Brunnenbau: “We are completely happy with how the day went. With the help of our own Bundesliga players, we set up an event team to prepare meticulously for our first tournament. We “We are still completely energized,” said Benjamin Großsteiner from the organization team on Sunday. Conclusion: Perg has more than passed its baptism of fire as a darts stronghold.
