300 defective devices ended up on the repair tables of the Braunau Repair Café in the first year, 200 of which were successfully repaired, much to the delight of the owners. Last but not least, sustainability also pays off in the stock market. “Often only one soldering point needs to be replaced, something glued or oiled. Sometimes the repair takes several hours. We are happy about every repair success – and if it doesn’t work, the device can be disposed of with a clear conscience,” says hobby repairer Kurt Gattermair from Weng, who has hardly missed an appointment to help since he was invited to the Repair Café.
This is how the Repair Café, which the environmental professionals set up together with the Kultur.Land.Impulse association in Braunau, works: Expert volunteers repair electrical appliances, toys and everyday items free of charge – together with the owners. Last but not least, it’s about exchange and togetherness. Snacks and sweets are also a must. The Repair Café in Braunau is a success: “At the first meeting a year ago, 25 volunteers signed up right away. Today we work with a core team of around 16 helpers, and they’re all volunteers,” says Andrea Rödig happily. She is an environmental consultant for the environmental professionals and launched the Repair Café Braunau. The hit list of devices brought in and repaired last year includes 24 sewing machines, 22 coffee machines and 20 vacuum cleaners, but also CD players, radios and even an antique tin toy car.
The Repair Café will continue to exist after the first birthday. The hobby tinkerers meet every first Wednesday of the month from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the ZIMT meeting center – register on 0670/605 1805. Anyone can join in, but the repair café should be even more colorful in the future: a sewing café or a bike repair center is being considered. Coffee shop.
