Berlinale: Historical psychodrama from 18th century Upper Austria is up for the Golden Bear

The film festival announced this on Monday in the German capital. In “Des Teufels Bad” singer-songwriter Anja Plaschg (Soap&Skin) plays a young woman in 18th century Upper Austria who voluntarily turns herself in to the authorities by saying she killed a child.

In addition to Plaschg, the film also stars David Scheid, Maria Hofstätter and Lukas Walcher. And in the “Encounters” competition section, local director Ruth Beckermann is represented with “Favoriten,” for which the filmmaker accompanied a class in the Vienna district that gave it its name over the course of three years.
