For the second time, “moto-austria” will bring Austrian motorcycle and scooter fans to the Wels trade fair and get them in the mood for the upcoming season. The offering is impressive: it ranges from accessories and clothing to motorcycle trips and e-mobility. For the first time, motorcycle fans have the opportunity to test nine different brands and more than 40 models directly in exhibition hall 20 on earth and on asphalt in two courses. After the first edition in 2020 with around 40,000 visitors and the ban on events due to the pandemic, the trade fair is taking place for the second time this year. Do the organizers want to top the previous number of visitors this year? “We want a little more spectators this year,” Robert Schneider, Managing Director of Messe Wels, did not want to commit to any specific figures. “For us it’s not primarily about the number of guests, but above all about the quality of the visitors,” said Karin Munk, general secretary of the 2Rad consortium, which co-organizes the trade fair. In addition to Austria and Germany led Trade fair president Peter Franzmayr too Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the USA and Poland.

Munk looked back on a “very satisfactory year” for the overall market in the Austrian motorized two-wheeler industry. With more than 46,220 vehicles sold and a six percent increase, the importance of single-track motor vehicles has been confirmed once again. The moped market has also developed “very positively” again after years of recession: plus 8.2 percent. The industry is still far from being at the level it was ten years ago, says Munk. The trend among young people to increasingly use mopeds again gives hope for a sustainable stabilization of the market.
