Labor demand fell 18% in 2023

Labor demand fell 18% during 2023 in Uruguayafter some 65,343 employment opportunitiesmeaning some 14,023 fewer job opportunities than in 2022, the year in which historic figures were reached.

The data comes from the latest labor market monitor prepared by Advice Analytics, which contains the preliminary balance for 2023 and the trends for 2024.

According to the company, the preliminary numbers towards the end of last year could be interpreted as an “expected normalization” after what was a period of intense growth, such as 2022, and that over the course of the period demand remained “extremely stable “.

During the first quarter of last year, some 17,071 job opportunities were generated; in the second semester there were about 15,699; another 16,424 in the third quarter; while, with the projections for the month of December, the year closed with 16,149 employment opportunities during the fourth quarter.

Job trends in 2024

Advice Analytics states that more and more Uruguayan companies are turning to exploring “the potential advantages of using data”, in order to make strategic decisions and optimize processes.

From this, 17.1% of the ads employment demands some knowledge linked to data, implying growth of up to 2.5 times compared to 2019.

This knowledge is demanded by employers in various fields of application, such as business intelligence by 68.7%; software development and engineering by 47.6%; and personnel selection by 30.1%.

In turn, the use of applied technologies The most demands on the candidates were Excel, at 52%; SQL, by 33.7%; and the podium is completed by Python, at 17.2%.
