The Linz professional fire department received its first emergency call at 3:36 p.m. Residents of an apartment building reported a burning smell in the stairwell. On site it turned out that there was a fire in the basement. The dryer in the shared laundry room had caught fire. “Thank God the fire door was closed,” says operations manager Markus Reitbauer in an interview with OÖN. The fire was confined to the basement.
After the emergency services extinguished the fire, they brought the dryer outside. “There was a lot of smoke,” says Reitbauer. With the help of a second respiratory protection team, the smoke was prevented from spreading into the stairwell. The apartments remained undamaged, but there was “enormous smoke damage” in the basement.
According to the fire department, the cause of the fire is unknown. A total of 23 emergency services were on site with six vehicles.
