While the SV Guntamatic Ried footballers are at the training camp in Slovenia this week, the Oberbank Business Club in the local Innviertel Arena will be converted into a large blood donation center today and tomorrow. It is now the 15th edition of this campaign by the Red Cross, SV Guntamatic Ried and the Oberösterreichische Nachrichten. The opportunity to do good is available on both days from 2:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Whether after an accident, birth or for seriously ill patients, in Austria, according to information from the Red Cross, a blood unit is needed every 90 seconds. That’s almost 1000 blood units per day. Blood is one of the most important emergency medicines and cannot be produced artificially. “The willingness to donate in the Innviertel is above average. Our region therefore makes a significant contribution to ensuring that we can maintain the supply of blood and blood products in Upper Austria”says Christian Dobler-Strehle, the district manager of the Red Cross. In 2023 there were 42 blood donation campaigns in the Ried district.

In the future, due to demographic developments, even more blood donations will be needed. “It is therefore important to be able to motivate as many first-time donors as possible. When you donate blood you get a blood test. Not only do you help those around you, but you also get an overview of your own health”says Dobler-Strehle, who donates blood up to four times a year.
